ROS guards: Lee is a tough act to follow

Rain or Shine guards Jericho Cruz and Maverick Ahanmisi said filling the void created by the departure of ace guard Paul Lee requires lot of sacrifices and hard work. But the two said they are ready to face the challenge head on. With Lee now with Star, Cruz and Ahanmisi will most likely share the responsibility left by Lee in the team.  “Of course we all know Paul Lee, the things he can do for the team, and it’s hard taking his place,” said the 6-foot Cruz after the team’s practice session yesterday at the North East Green Hills gym in San Juan City. “He can make an impact right away when he enters the court. But it’s not just on offense – he’s also one of the team leaders. So we’ll miss that, …

Malacañang notched its third straight win with a 92-77 drubbing of Bureau of Fire Protection to stay unbeaten in Group A elims even as National Housing Authority stunned House of Representatives, 102-100, in the 5th UNTV Cup held over the weekend at the Pasig City Sports Center. The Malacañang Kamao needed a big fourth quarter show through the hot shooting of Ian Garrido and John Jimenez to keep their unbeaten record intact in the annual tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon. Protecting a slim 64-61 lead going into the 10 minutes, the Kamao pulled away for good with a decisive run aided by a solid defensive transition early in the payoff period. Ateneo and Adamson appear to have the inside track for the last two berths although National University remains in the running despite a streak of bad games that saw the squad lose five in a row. Ateneo is in third place after winning back-to-back games the past week for a 6-4 record, followed by Adamson with an even 5-5 slate after arresting its two-game skid, and NU at 4-7. Of the three teams, Ateneo currently has the best form. The Blue Eagles beat …
