Samsung Electronics to build smart tourism complex in Jeju

By Song Sung-hoon, Maeil Business News Korea South Korea’s tech behemoth Samsung Electronics Co. will build a mega tourism complex in the country’s beloved holiday island Jeju using its own smart technologies and grid solutions. Samsung Electronics said on Thursday it signed an agreement with land developer JCC Inc. to partner in development of a multi-tourism complex in Jeju Island, dubbed the Ora Tourism Complex that will be built on a site of 3.57 million square meters at an estimated cost of about 6.28 trillion won ($5.4 billion). Apple sued in China over showing of ’90s war film

By Louise Watt, Associated Press BEIJING — Apple is being sued by a subsidiary of China's broadcasting regulator over a propaganda film more than 20 years old, in the latest legal wrangling for the tech giant in China in recent weeks. A Beijing court says the case has been brought by a production center that alleges that Apple has infringed its exclusive online rights to broadcast a film that depicts Chinese fighting against Japanese soldiers in northern China in the early 1930s. The plaintiff is also suing the developer and operator of the Youku HD app available on Apple's App Store that it says enabled users to watch the film and caused it "huge economic losses," according to the Beijing Haidian District People's Court. Instagram user base surges to 500 million

SAN FRANCISCO, June 21, 2016 - The user base of photo-sharing service Instagram has surged to half a billion, adding its latest 100 million in less than a year, the Facebook-owned application said Tuesday.   ''Today, we're excited to announce our community has grown to more than 500 million Instagrammers -- more than 300 million of whom use Instagram every single day,'' a blog post said. ''Our community also continues to become even more global, with more than 80 percent living outside of the United States.'' Twitter allows users to share 140-second videos

The change highlights co-founder Jack Dorsey-led Twitter's recent push into video, an area where it lags Facebook and Google's YouTube, and efforts to revive stalled user growth. In another move, Twitter will start allowing video publishers to make money out of their content on Vine, its video streaming service. Vine will use Twitter's Amplify Open program, which runs ads before a video starts playing. Twitter previously restricted videos to 30 seconds. The new 140-second video limit also applies to Vine, which previously had a six-second limit.
