Maximum Glamour

With the resounding success of last year’s Red Charity Gala, style arbiters Tessa Prieto-Valdes and Kaye Tinga recently held their eighth annual event at the Shangri-La at The Fort. Strong and hardworking, the duo is passionate about not only presenting the best of Filipino couturiers, but likewise for their cause—the Philippine Red Cross and the Assumption HS 1981 Foundation. They move in their gorgeous ways, modern yet old-fashioned and owning their space with élan and flair. A veritable “Who’s Who” in the Miss World Organization recently filled the residence of celebrated newlyweds Dr. Daniel Vasquez and Baby Cruz Vazquez. Miss World Philippines special adviser Baby and her loving husband hosted the delegation, highlighted with the presence of Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna and Mr. World 2016 Rohit Khandelwal. The ‘Best Dressed Women of the Philippines’ gave a toast to the beauty and elegance of the Filipina in its 13th annual awards ball held recently at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-la. This highly anticipated yearly event of the Philippine Cancer Society is the country’s longest running fashion for a cause. Angola Consul and event chairperson Helen Ong’s drive, enthusiasm, and hard work has elevated the Best Dressed Women of the Philippines to stand out from its contemporaries. The festivities commenced with a call for a moment of silence as a tribute to honorary chairperson Imelda Cojuangco, a philanthropist, recognized as the ultimate fashion icon, who recently passed away. Tita Meldy has always been my fashion idol, and has always looked so impeccably glamorous in our family gatherings when I was growing up; and I am proud to own some of her gowns, one of which I wore to this Best Dressed event. Tita Meldy gave generously to the church, and to people in need. With her thoughtfulness, compassion, humility, and …

All day all night party

People have great admiration for those who, despite age, just keep on going, imbued with a personal mantra of work and fun, of sharing, and more. A role model, a gentleman of unwavering passion, and with laughter as big as his heart, Don Ado Escudero celebrated his 85th birthday at his famed Villa Escudero hacienda. Known for its idyllic setting and graceful ambience, with its babbling brooks and turn-of-the-century house, this year Ado celebrated with an “All Day All Night, Come As You Are and When Convenient Party.” It was a breakfast till dinner affair, which started with mass celebrated by Fr. Mercurio at 8 a.m. and which culminated in a fashion show and entertainment numbers at midnight. All these and Ado hardly showed signs of exhaustion. For the past 30 years Ado has celebrated his milestones, throwing parties, and sparing no expense in the pursuit of fantasy, with doses of opulence. The genteel man said: “All my parties have been very well attended by friends who enjoy the same things in life. Since I met Patis Tesoro in 1980, we’ve thrown themed parties and most of them required costumes.” His curiosity knew no limits and in his moment of nostalgia he recounted his past …
