German Moreno passes away

Host-comedian German Moreno, in real life German Molina Moreno, has passed away at the age of 82. In a statement by nephew John Nite, it read:  "He passed on in the company of his family and friends. He lived a full life, touched so many hearts through the years, and helped make dreams come true for most of the biggest stars in the Philippine entertainment industry." he said. He suffered a second stroke on January 7, 2016 and was rushed to the St. Lukes Medical Center in Quezon City. He died due to cardiac arrest, Nite said. His remains will be brought to the Mount Carmel Parish in Aurora Boulevard today, DZBB reported. He will be interred at the Loyola Memorial Park. Monday really is the longest day–survey

New research by global workplace provider Regus has revealed that workers globally are most likely to carry out overtime on Monday when they most probably try to catch up from the weekend and to get ahead for the week, instead of Friday when they are keen to get out and start the weekend. While most workers work two to four hours more each week, a committed two fifths put in a full extra day or even more. This latest research, surveying over 44,000 business people from more than 100 countries including the Philippines, reveals that working long hours has become the norm with most workers putting in at least a small amount of overtime every week. PAL adopts Philippine eaglet

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is adopting a one-month-old Philippine eaglet. Known as Chick 26, the eaglet hatched on December 7, 2015 at the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City. To celebrate the eaglet’s first month, the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) is partnering with PAL to be Chick 26’s adopter for the next six years. PAL is donating one million Mabuhay Miles to support the foundation’s mission of spreading awareness to save the Philippine Eagle and protect its forest habitat. As adopter of Chick 26, PAL was given the naming rights for the month-old eaglet. The flag carrier will launch a name search among PAL employees. Four arrested in Cebu for subscription fraud as Globe steps up campaign vs scams

Four alleged fraudsters in Cebu City were recently arrested by a joint police and Globe Telecom security team after they were found to have submitted fake documents in applying for postpaid accounts that included provision for high-end smartphones. Arrested were Girly Belleza, Allen Marie Almario, Gerald Anthony Lizares and Wildredo Arabis. Based on investigation, the four individuals allegedly submitted fake documents, using fictitious names, in acquiring postpaid subscription with high-end phones. This prompted a joint police and Globe security team to set an entrapment operation against them. The four were detained by police authorities and appropriate criminal charges will be filed against them. Globe Telecom said it will continue to work closely with police authorities in pursuing fraudsters.  The company is deeply committed in prosecuting illegal activities involving our products and services.

Oil companies to increase gas, lower diesel prices

Oil companies are expected to increase their prices of gasoline products and to decrease the  prices of diesel and kerosene. Shell, Petron and Seaoil  announced that they will increase the prices of gasoline products by P0.10 per liter and decrease the diesel and kerosene prices by P0.15 per liter and P0.25, respectively, on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. These reflect movements in the international oil market. Eastern Petroleum also announced that it will slash the price of diesel by P0.15 per liter at 6PM, Monday, but will hike the price of gasoline by P0.10 per liter at 6AM, Tuesday. Fernando L. Martinez, Eastern Petroleum Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, attributed the latest price adjustment to the continuous downward trend of prices in the world oil market.
