Adulthood can pose a lot of challenges, particularly when it comes to careers, yet Honda has found an interesting yet simple way to impart some of life’s most valuable lessons to children with the help of KidZania Manila. KidZania Manila is a newly developed establishment in Bonifacio Global City that allows children to discover, explore, and learn about the adult world with interactive scenarios that let them both work and play. The multi-story complex features an entire city, scaled down to a child’s perspective, filled with various establishments and services. Like any city, it including police, a fire station, hospital, and even supreme court. Naturally, these careers can be experienced by the visiting children to give a glimpse of what they have in store. Children ‘work’ to receive Kidzo’s — the …

Two new ways to

The PX series stays true to classic Vespa styling with its exterior nodding to the form that has propelled it to worldwide popularity. In spite of the classic shape, the PX has rolled with the times, boasting of a light frame with a Euro3 engine. The air-cooled 150cc two-stroke engine is regulated by its four-speed ‘twist grip’ manual gearshift. Just like the classic example, the location of the footbrake and spare wheel have not been changed. Wolf in sheep’s clothing

The return of 80s music, fashion and the occasional humorous reference may stir up some nostalgia, yet few things get memories rushing back to the fore quite as well as cars from the era. If the 90s were known for sports sedans, and the 2000s for sport SUVs, the 80s bowed to the reign of the sport hatchback. The efficient alternative Back then, the VW Golf GTI was king, and while it’s a tough act to follow, many will argue that today’s Golf GTI pays tribute quite well. In truth, it’s the regular Golf GL that benefitted from the GTI’s halo effect, and for that legend, a fitting tribute is Volkswagen’s recently released Golf TSI variant. Indeed, the hot hatch GTI is fast, sexy, and priced competitively. The TSI, by comparison, positions …

Choosing and fitting a dashcam

Traffic altercations can be quite a pain, especially when it comes to explaining your side. In cases like these, having a dashboard-mounted camera (dashcam) can help get one out of a bind. With many of them touting added features like GPS-tracking, motion-activated recording, and even multiple cameras, these devices can also help monitor the vehicle when the owner is not around. They’re quite readily available these days, found in many auto accessory shops and appliance centers with several models and prices. So how does one select the appropriate dashcam? Narrow down your needs Dashcams can range from the very basic to the very complicated. Plush everyday SUV Toyota Fortuner 2.4 V 4×2

With the SUV wars in full swing, it’s no surprise that prospective buyers continue to debate the pros and cons of this model and that. One of those models frequently talked about is Toyota’s Fortuner, a long-time favorite with much on the line with this all-new model. Sleek and stylish were adjectives that were hard to ascribe to this class of vehicle, but the new Fortuner certainly earns it. The new façade integrates broad but slim bi-beam LED headlights, with a train of LED DRLs. The grille is flanked by two broad vertical chrome bars, while lower on the bumper, triangular foglamp housings lined with chrome add even more bling. The Fortuner features more subtly sculpted wheel on its side for a sexy coke-bottle shape. These wheel wells house large 18-inch wheels …

Crossing countries by land

Cross country road trips, for residents of Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam can take on a very literal meaning. This is exactly what Mazda had set out to do, inviting members of the media from ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) nations to partake in a drive across several borders and thousands of kilometers in a veritable buffet of Mazda vehicles. The Mazda SkyActiv Caravan, as it was called, was conceived to strengthen the friendship among AEC nations, and allowing participants to experience these varied cultures up close and personal. The Caravan entailed a drive from Bangkok, Thailand; to Nakhon Panom-Khammuan, Laos; through Hanoi, Vietnam; down to Cambodia, and back to Bangkok. The nine-day journey spans some 4,000 kilometers, with over 140 participants from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore. Daunting as it may …

Come high water

The rainy season has undoubtedly made its presence felt, and with it comes the heavy rains and floods commonly associated with the season. This could be bolstered by La Niña as well, amplifying the already heavy rains. People living in the 26,000 flood-prone barangays – as identified by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council or NDRRMC – in the Philippines must again face potential flooding this season. Besides this, super typhoons and calamities could once again strike, compounding the annual problem. One aspect of a country’s operations severely affected by these natural occurrences is transport. Excessive flooding instantly disables thoroughfares, inhibiting the transport of relief goods, assistance, and evacuation of those affected. In response to these particular challenges posed by today’s severe weather, H2O Technologies, a wholly Filipino technology company, has …

Driving dual personalities

For many years, Mercedes-Benz has carefully cultivated an image of luxury, refinement and style when it comes to their vehicles. It’s an image that has served it well, but may leave some younger buyers looking for something sporty still wanting. For those unique few, Mercedes-Benz offers the CLA 250 4Matic AMG. A product of the New Generation Compact Car program (NGCC), the CLA is built-upon the A-Class platform. Like its big brother, the CLS, it’s also a four-door with coupe styling. It’s a radical departure from the typical offerings, with more aggressive styling than your typical C-Class, all-wheel drive as standard, and the radical retro-futuristic interiors of the A- and GLA-Class cars. Immediately apparent is the beaded grille, hawk-eye headlights and massive front intakes. Sloping character lines practically form an aircraft-inspired, reverse NACA …
