Avian pest in CL now under control

After almost three months of outbreak of the Newcastle disease virus (NDV) in Central Luzon which caused the death of more than 60,000 game fowls, the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the region said that the outbreak is now under control. DA Regional Director Andrew Villacorta said that no new cases have been reported in the last few weeks particularly in areas or provinces where the outbreak has been reported such as Pampanga and Tarlac. As of yesterday, he said the DA field office distributed vaccines and other animal antibiotics in these areas, including Bulacan to help chicken raisers and game fowl owners avoid the fatal virus. 10 CL towns face solid waste raps

At least 10 towns in Region 3 have been charged with violation of Republic Act 9003, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) said recently. EMB identified the 10 as Abucay and Mariveles in Bataan; Paombong and Hagonoy in Bulacan; Cuyapo, General Tinio, Jaen, Bongabon, and San Isidro in Nueva Ecija; and San Simon in Pampanga. “Aside from filing charges, we have implemented the forced closure of dumpsites in Mariveles, General Tinio, Jaen and San Simon by securing the area to prevent further activities of dumping wastes,” said EMB Regional Director Lormelyn Claudio. According to Claudio, the 10 local government units have been directed to comply with RA 9003 to the barangay level and ensure the operation of materials recovery facilities.

Court orders arrest of mayor’s accusers

Candaba, Pampanga — A Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) has issued an arrest order against the accusers of former Mayor Jerry Pelayo after the court found probable cause in the libel case filed against them. RTC Branch 224 Judge Tita Marilyn Payoto-Villordon ordered the arrest of Arnold Canimo, Edgardo de Guzman, Gaudencio Lacanilao, Francisco San Pedro, Lorenzo Catacutan, Romeo Balatbat, Dionisio Pelayo, Freddie Pelayo, Rufino Pabalan, Dionisio Guevarra, Rodolfo Manalili, Jessie Laurente, Danilo Bartolome and Bernardo Santiago. The libel case stemmed from the complaint filed by the former mayor in connection with the P128-million plunder case filed by the accused against him alleging that he engaged in ghost projects during his incumbency as local chief executive of Candaba. 20,000 game fowl vaccinated against Newcastle disease virus in Region 3

More than 20,000 game fowl, mostly from backyard farms in Central Luzon, received free vaccination shots against Newcastle disease virus (NDV), a highly contagious and often severe virus that has recently caused outbreaks in some farms in the region. The provision of free vaccines, including medicines and other medical supplies for backyard raisers is part of an ongoing project spearheaded by a team of veterinarians of the King Slasher, aimed to help particularly backyard raisers manage their game fowl and range chicken and avoid pests. “We do farm-to-farm vaccination every Saturday especially on those backyard breeders. Sila kasi yung ating priority dahil sila yung madalas hindi nagbabakuna,” said Adonis Magat, a veterinarian. “It is purely charity work that was started last year in different barangays and villages,” Magat added, referring to the program. …

P135-M zoo, theme park to rise at Clark Freeport

Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga – The Global Zoo and Theme Park Alliance Inc. (GZTPAI) has started the construction of a P135-million zoo inside a 20 hectare property in this Freeport. GZTPAI General Manager Ric B. Siccion and Clark Development Corporation (CDC) officials on Saturday led the groundbreaking ceremonies. The area is near the Gate 14 inside the Freeport. The CDC Marketing Department reported that GZTPAI will also build a theme park featuring rides as well as adventure, leisure and recreational facilities. The project would employ about 140 workers in the next five years. CDC and GZTPI signed the contract last September 2015. CDC said that the project would not only create another attraction inside the Freeport but likewise reiterate that forests are the most ideal habitat for wild animals. Contractors’ license application rises in 2015

Angeles City, Pampanga – Applications for Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) licenses processed by Region 3 Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) have increased in 2015. Judith Angeles DTI Central Luzon director said that her office processed a total of 331 applications for PCAB license in 2015. Angeles said the figure is a marked increase from the total of 303 applications processed in 2014. From the total number of licenses processed in 2015, 230 are regular license applications, 94 are Application for Registration and Classification for government projects, six are Special Licenses and one applied for Change of Business Name. For 2015, majority or 251 of the 331 PCAB license applications processed by the DTI-3 PCAB window were renewal of licenses. Pineda inaugurates P21-M Mabalacat City College satellite campus

Mabalacat City, Pampanga — Governor Lilia Garcia-Pineda inaugurated last Thursday the newly constructed satellite campus of the Mabalacat City College (MCC) in Barangay Dapdap, here. The two-storey building with 20 rooms situated in a one-hectare lot cost P21 million. The provincial government allotted P11 million for the construction approved by the Provincial Board. Pampanga 1st District Rep. Joseller Guiao also augmented P10 million for the construction of the satellite campus while the Mabalacat City government pledged P10 million for the laboratory equipment needed in the building. Gov.
