If you were a young woman in the early 1940s who got raped—and impregnated—by a Japanese soldier, would you let your child live? This is the dilemma that confronts the pivotal character Chayong in Artist Playground’s adaptation of Dan Hollanda’s war-time drama Lagablab, a play inspired by British writer W. Somerset’s short story The Unconquered. Directed by Paul Jake Paule, the one-hour, nine-minute play is set in Bulacan during the Japanese occupation. Lav Diaz’s Golden moment

After winning the Silver Bear (Alfred Bauer Prize) at the 66th Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin for his eight-hour opus Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis (Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery), art house filmmaker Lav Diaz won the top prize, the Golden Lion (Leone d’Oro  per il miglior film), for the B&W revenge tale Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left), at the recent Mostra Internationale d’Arte Cinematografica della Biennale di Venezia. “This is for my country, the Filipino people; for our struggles and the struggle of humanity,” said Diaz in his acceptance speech. Ang Babaeng Humayo is about a woman (Charo Santos-Concio) released from prison 30 years after being framed and wrongfully convicted and who plans to take revenge on her former lover. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte wears a special attire prepared for him as he attends a gala dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Lao People’s Democratic Republic in honor of the leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the heads of state/government from the East Asia Summit (EAS), the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, and delegates to the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits, on September 7, 2016. Patintero is a Filipino street game that is a modified version of tag. Played on a rectangular grid made up of 5 rectangles, the object of the game is to cross the grid and get back to the starting line without being tagged out by a defending team. It is usually played with four man teams. Who gets to be a runner and a defender is decided by a coin toss.
