Johnson will play alongside Rory McIlroy, the world No. 3 in what is billed as the biggest golfing event to be held in the country since 1998 when Tiger Woods, at the prime of his career, played at the Mimosa golf club inside in Clark Air Base.

Johnson and McIlory will play at the Pradera Verde Golf and Counttry Club, a course that has not hosted a single professional or amateur tournament opened for play only this year.

The players reportedly will receive an appearance fee of $1 million each.

The course was reportedly built by the husband and wife tandem of Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda and Bong Pineda.

McIlroy was supposed to play Jason Day, but Day, whose mother is a Filipina, begged off saying he was still recovering from an injury. The injury had also forced Day to withdrew two big PGA Tour events including the FedExCup last September.

Johnson, the reigning US Open champion, expressed delight over his selection.

“I am very excited for this match and honored to be invited to play for charity,” said the 32-year-old Johnson.

“I am glad that Justin accepted to take my place,” said Day in a message to the organizers.
