Classic beautiful silk dresses, bow ties, sequins, glittering gloves, tassels and fringes, music from The Jazz Era, The Charleston and tap dancing, and tons of laughter—it was indeed a dazzling night at the “Roaring 1920’s-Gatsby Style” Manila Bulletin Thanksgiving Party at The Manila Hotel.

Set in the roaring ’20s but with a touch of 21st-century lights-and-sound technology, the evening sure matched the pomp and pageantry of the lavish parties of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.

The Manila Hotel’s Tent City returned to the Jazz Age with dancers tap-tap-tapping in their Maryjanes, singers like Arthur Manuntag breaking into the likes of Irving Berlin’s “Puttin’ on the Ritz” and Louis Armstrong’s “West End Blues,” and games that brought out the highroller in every guest.

At the MB Fast Bucks, the guests were challenged to get as many flying metallic paper inside the cash blower cube. Over at the Tempo Breakout Madness booth, players’ wits and escape skills were tested as, handcuffed to a pole, they must free themselves by finding the right key in a box of a hundred others in one minute tops. Self-professed geeks loved the Going Places Around the World game, which resembled the iconic Snakes and Ladders board game. Other fun and interactive booths were the Animal Scene Mystery Hatch, Weight to Match by Agriculture, MB Slot Machine, Balita Glitzy Dice, MB Champagne Pong Extravaganza, and Vernaculars Grand Roulette.

“We come together tonight in this magnificent and glittering setting to mark yet another year of gratitude for one another. Manila Bulletin has made certain that tonight’s revelry, despite the travails of Metro Manila traffic, is a cause for a momentous TGIF enjoyment, as well as a tribute to our dear partners and friends and supporters in the advertising industry,” said Arman Cabrera, Manila Bulletin’s VP for Advertising.

And what’s a party without dancing, games, prizes, and awards? This year’s winner for the Dance Competition is the Zoobic Safari team, followed by IPG MediaBrands, and Starcom Mediavest.

Another highlight of the gathering was the awarding of industry partners and clients for their steadfast support to the company. The top three Ad Agencies for 2016 were the Omnicom Media Group, Group M, and Starcom Mediavest Group respectively; Hyundai Asia Resources was the Top Direct Client followed by San Miguel Corporation, and Mr. Jessy Sanchez; and the Top Three Classified Clients were the Philippine Integrated Advertising Agency, Omanfil International Development Corporation, and International Elevator Equipment, respectively.

The highlight of the dazzling night was the raffle yearly awaited. Every winner was all smiles as mobile phones, gift certificates, and trips to different destinations were generously given to the advertisers. The biggest prize of them all was a trip for two to Singapore won by Kris Asuncion.
