Pinoy setter stands tall

PSL-F2 Logistics Manila has dropped its first two matches in the ongoing 2016 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, but one player still earned the admiration of several topnotch coaches.

Pomi Casalmaggiore Coach Giovanni Caprara was one of the instant admirers of former La Salle star Kim Fajardo with her wily plays.

“I liked a lot the setter (Fajardo) because I thought she played incredible in executing their fast attacks,” said Caprara after guiding her team to a 25-19, 25-15, 25-21win last Thursday.

“Even when they were on transition from a dig, she still managed to make plays in the middle and sometimes, it was difficult for us to counter,” he added.

Pomi Casalmaggiore skipper Valentina Tirozzi echoed Caprara’s observation on Fajardo.

“Your setter is really good. She set a lot of attacks and we had some trouble on that,” said Tirozzi, a member of the Italian national team.

Prior to its defeat from Pomi Casalmaggiore, PSL-F2 Logistics Manila bowed to powerhouse Rexona-Sesc Rio, 25-15, 25-13, 25-20, on Tuesday.

But Rexona-Sesc Rio Coach Bernardo Rezende praised Fajardo and two other players who stood out in the squad.

“I think the setter is good. Sometimes, she plays fast and she’s a talented young player. A lot of potential,” said Rezende.

Fajardo, a two-time UAAP Best Setter, is flattered with the compliments she is getting, but the La Salle standout said she still wants to improve her game to provide more help for her teammates.

PSL-F2 Logistics Manila was playing defending champion and semifinalist Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul.
