Maserati Philippines just launched its first SUV, the Levante, last Wednesday Oct. 12, at the Palace Pool Club. Named after warm Mediterranean winds that can change instantly from mild to gale force, the Levante can shift from smooth on-road drivability to venturing into the extremes of off-road, just as easily.

The Levante is 100 percent Italian made and Maserati boasts best in class on-road handling in sport mode as well as in snow and ice, while still offering comfort when driving off-road.

Both Maserati and SUV

The Levante has been designed with both sports car characteristics and off-road prowess in mind. It has the best-in-segment aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.31cd.  Propelling it is a choice of two gasoline engines and one diesel, all of which are in 3.0-litre V6 engine configurations. The twin-turbo gasoline engines are available in top-of-the-range 430hp that can do 0-100-kph in 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 264-kph and the 350hp version, which does 0-100-kph in 6.0 seconds with a top speed of 251-kph.  The common-rail, direct injection turbo diesel V6 puts out 275hp and can do 0-100-kph in 6.9 seconds with a top speed of 230-kph. All of the engines are paired with the Q4 AWD drivetrain which delivers power to all four wheels.

As for ride and handling, the Levante is equipped with air suspension, is built with lightweight materials and boasts of a sportscar-like 50:50 weight distribution, with the lowest center of gravity in its class. All this allows this SUV to return the handling characteristics you’d expect from a Maserati.

For entertainment, the Levante is fitted with a 8.4 inch capacitive touch screen display, manipulated with a brand new rotary control, Maserati Touch Control Plus. The entertainment system features an AHA function  — which extends the AM, FM and DAB digital radio with a network connection option. The AHA function dialogues with the user’s network-connected mobile device to give access to online services (like additional radio stations and programs, etc.)

The Levante has safety and convenience features you can expect from a Maserati like a brand-new Human Machine Interface,  dedicated cargo solutions, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go function, Forward Collision Warning and Brake Assist System, Lane Departure Warning, and a Surround View camera.

“The Levante is like a new wind that is exciting to the local SUV market. The exclusivity it offers, and the Maserati performance it guarantees, has attracted both young and old aficionados,” said Wellington Soong, chair and president of Maserati Philippines.

The Maserati Levante is exclusively produced in Italy, at the Mirafiori plant. It marks the continuation of Maserati’s more than 100 years of tradition and dedicated craftsmanship.
