“I have directed all my regional directors in all affected areas to provide emergency employment to the displaced workers,” Bello said in a text message, referring to typhoon-affected people who lost their livelihood or employment after Typhoon Lawin ravaged their areas.

The labor secretary said DOLE will use the remaining fund of its Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) for this year to help the typhoon victims.

According to an initial report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), around 60,000 persons were affected by the super typhoon.

Super Typhoon Lawin (international name: Haima) is currently the strongest typhoon to hit the country this year with a maximum strength of 225 kilometer per hour during its landfall on Wednesday night, October 19.
