Pacquiao fears me –Vargas

Less than four weeks before the biggest bout of his career, Jessie Vargas took a break from his hectic training schedule and told the TV production crew tailing him one startling observation in the runup to his Nov. 5 clash with Manny Pacquiao.

“I know Pacquiao is intimidated,” said Vargas, confident that the Filipino eight-division champion fears him as he looks forward to making the first defense of the world welterweight crown at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Vargas is a Las Vegas native and he feels that everything is working on his favor even though oddsmakers have installed him as a huge underdog against the 37-year-old Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is coming back after a brief retirement and a victory over Vargas is seen as a stepping stone towards a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather in 2017.

A loss, however, should serve as a speed bump for Pacquiao, who has been trying his best to balance being a senator and a fighter.

Even Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach admits that his No. 1 fighter will have to devote his time to being a pugilist if he ever hopes to deal Mayweather his first loss.

But that’s obviously going ahead of the story as the 27-year-old Vargas stands proudly on the horizon, eager to become the man to finally put Pacquiao into permanent retirement.

Meanwhile, almost all the major activities during fightweek will be held at The Wynn, the official hotel of the promotion.

The formal arrival rites of Pacquiao and Vargas takes place at the South Valet Entrance on Nov. 1, while the press conference will be at the Margaux Ballroom on Nov. 2 and the official weighin at the Encore Theater on Nov. 4.

The undercard press conference will also be staged at the Margaux Ballroom with the world super-bantamweight title fight between Nonito Donaire and Jessie Magdaleno as main attraction.
