New bishop for Tagbilaran

A new bishop has been appointed to the Diocese of Tagbilaran in Bohol.

Pope Francis on Thursday appointed Monsignor Alberto Uy of the Diocese of Talibon as the new bishop of Tagbilaran, replacing Bishop Leonardo Medroso.

Medroso’s resignation has been accepted by the Pope.

According to a CBCP News post, Uy’s appointment came days before his 50th birthday on  October 18 and before the third anniversary of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that devastated the diocese in 2013.

A native of Ubay, Bohol, Uy, was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Talibon on April 14, 1993.

A priest for 23 years, he also served as dean of seminarians at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Tagbilaran City from 1995 to 1997 and Vice-Rector at St. John Mary Vianney theological seminary in Cagayan de Oro City from 2006 to 2010.

Uy took his philosophical studies at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Tagbilaran City and theology, first at the St. John Mary Vianney Theological Seminary in Cagayan de Oro City where he earned his Bachelor in Sacred Theology degree and a Masters in pastoral Ministry.

He also completed his licentiate in Sacred Theology at the Loyola School of Theology in Quezon City.

In 2006, he obtained his doctorate in Sacred Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy.

At present, Uy is the Episcopal Vicar of the Talibon diocese and pastor of the St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Jagna town.
