Manila volley tilt to go hi-tech

Spectators will be treated to a world-class volleyball entertainment and a show of new technology when the 2016 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship fires off this Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

According to Ramon Suzara of the organizing Philippine Superliga (PSL), they will be using Hawkeye replay system to maintain the accuracy and integrity of officiating in this prestigious event co-organized by Eventcourt with TV5, Petron, Asics, BMW and F2 Logistics as official sponsors, Diamond Hotel as official residence and Turkish Airlines as official airlines.

A state-of-the-art computer system, Hawkeye uses seven high-performance cameras located in strategic positions to make sure that crucial calls will be accurately decided. It is being used in top-tier volleyball events like the Olympics, World Championships, Olympic qualifiers and World Grand Prix.

Aside from the Hawkeye, also set to be used in this star-studded tourney that also has Philippine Sports Commission, Rexona, Mall of Asia Arena, Foton and Price Waterhouse Cooper as sponsors is the use of tablet system in the interaction between the bench and table officials.

First implemented in the world club tourney last year in Zurich, coaches will be provided with a tablet from Data Volley that is wirelessly connected to the table officials, enabling them to enter their starting roster and request for substitutions, timeouts and challenges with ease.

Data Volley will also use S-Score sheets in providing game statistics.

“This will be the first time for our local fans to witness these world-class volleyball technologies in action,” said Suzara, also a ranking member of the International Volleyball Federation and the Asian Volleyball Confederation.
