Valdez goes up against former teammates today

Games Today
(Philsports Arena, Pasig City)
12:30 p.m. – 100 Plus vs IEM (men’s)
4 p.m. – Laoag vs Air Force (women’s)
6 p.m. – BaliPure vs Customs (women’s)

Alyssa Valdez will probably find herself in an awkward position when her team, Bureau of Customs, faces BaliPure in today’s Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference game at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City. But mostly, she said, it’s going to be fun.

Across the net are familiar faces, and not only that, they are mostly her friends since BaliPure will have her former teammates in Ateneo as core.

“It’s going to be fun and challenging at the same time, kasi syempre, we know each other on and off the court,” said Valdez, who led her team past Laoag last week, scoring 39 points in their 18-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9 win

Amy Ahomiro, one of BaliPure’s key players and Valdez’s former Ateneo teammate, echoed the same sentiment.

“It’s going to be a good experience for us to be against each other. We’re always going to be teammates at heart, but it’s going to be interesting to see her on the other side of the net,” Ahomiro said.

Gametime is 6 p.m.

Valdez is capable of taking over a game, but with Thai imports Kanjana Kuthaisong and Natthanicha Jaisaen now cleared to play, the former Ateneo ace is expected to share scoring chores.

BaliPure, which is out to bounce back from a 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-13 loss to UST last weekend, will be bannered by American imports Kaylee Manns and Katharine Morrell as well as skipper Sue Roces, Dzi Gervacio and Charo Soriano.

Meanwhile, Laoag and Air Force part ways at 4 p.m. Both teams tote similar 1-1 cards.

In the Spikers’ Turf, Instituto Estetico Manila goes for its second win when it clashes with winless 100 Puls (0-2) at 12:30 p.m.
