PHL captures two silver medals in pencak silat in Asian Beach Games

MANILA — The Philippines captured two silver medals from pencak silat on Saturday in the 5th Asian Beach Games at the coastal city of Da Nang in Vietnam.

Jaciren Abad and Princesslyn Enopia did their best but were outclassed in their respective championship round matches at the Bien Dong Park.

Abad lost to Vietnamese Vu van Kien, 0-5, in the men’s 50kg.-55kg. division while Enopia bowed to Thailand’s Firdao Duromae, 0-5, in the women’s Tanding (45kg.-50kg.) division.

The Philippines now has two golds, three silvers and 15 bronzes.

Wrestler Noemi Tener delivered the country’s 15th bronze medal after placing third in the classification round of the women’s under 60kg. division.

Meanwhile, Jefferson Rhey Loon Jr. will try to give the Philippines a third gold medal when he faces Thailand’s Pornteb Poolkaew in the final of the men’s Tanding (60kg.-65kg.) division.

Wrestler Alvin Lobreguito can also contribute a medal if he wins over Thailand’s Komchan Ngamthaweesuk in the battle for the bronze medal round in the men’s under 60kg. division scheduled on Saturday night.

The other Filipino wrestlers who missed the podium were Joseph Angana (men’s under 70kg.), Efrelyn Crosby (women’s under 70kg.) and Richelle Veronica Piollo (women’s under 50kg.).
