8 human trafficking victims rescued in Zamboanga

Zamboanga  City – Eight women, who were about to be spirited into Malaysia illegally, were rescued by the police, who were also able to arrest three human traffickers at the Sangali Fishing Area in Barangay Sangali here.

Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Director Chief Supt. Billy Beltran said the human trafficking victims and the suspects were already onboard a motor launch when policemen were able to intercept them at around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

They were reportedly headed for Sandakan in Sabah Malaysia.

Rescued were Nancy Adodang Suerte, 35, of Davao City; Eleonora Salvador Dela Peña 46, of  Laguna; Sheila Marie Baliasteros Cataneda,  26,  of Urdaneta, Pangasinan; Jessel Noquera Catalan, 27,  of Sultan Kudarat : Riza Ordonez Garcia, 40, of Cavite: Jharlyn Montisino Garcia, 25, of Quezon City; and Jennifer Albacite Pagdato, 26, and Primmie Dee Book Diasnes, 23, both from Iloilo.

Beltran identified the suspects as Oliver Burlas, 36, and Lory Delos Reyes, 24, both residents of Kalang, Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City; and Robin Agata, 56 , operator of the motor launch  and a resident of Panigayan,  Isabela City.

The eight were about to be transported to Malaysia through the country’s southern borders, particularly through Tawi-Tawi, according to the police report.

Beltran said the three suspects will be charged for human trafficking.
