Millennial Mickey hits the runways in Manila

A visit to any Disney Park anywhere in the world will tell you that everybody loves Mickey Mouse. He is the official mascot of Disneyland and almost always occupies the very last float in any theme park parade. Created in 1928, Mickey has proven that he is as popular today as he was back when he was first introduced to the public via the black and white short feature Steamboat Willie. Two years later, the Mickey Mouse club was born (Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and would you believe even Ryan Gosling were once all part of this kiddie crew) which further cemented the beloved character as a worldwide icon.

It used to be that you could only purchase official Disney merchandise when you traveled outside the country. Now, local clothing brand Folded & Hung has once again partnered with Disney to create a collection. Fun, comfortable, and youthful, the line was launched early this month at the Mega Fashion Hall. With today’s young social media influencers walking the runway dressed in Mickey apparel, the show was well attended. Included in the new batch of digital personalities who took part in the show were Kenzo Guttierez, Mark Palma, Almira Teng, Dani Camcam, Christian Busby, PBB graduates Karen Reyes and Barbie Imperial, and singer Mario Mortel.

As part of the evening’s activities, a Style and Design competition was held. Led by local designer and guest stylist Chris Diaz, emerging stylists and designers created fashionable looks using the current Disney themed tops, shirts, jackets, bags, and accessories. Guests had their own favorites, but in the end the judges chose stylist Danica Familara’s street style Minnie-inspired getup (replete with pink Minnie ears and a see-through black skirt over denims) as the winner.

“We are so honored and excited to once again be working with Disney. Our latest collaboration features not just Mickey but other well loved characters as well like Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. The designs are modern, subtle and will suit the fashion palette of the young and young at heart. It is, however, mainly created for the Millennials,” said Folded & Hung CEO Ronald Pineda. ”Next month, we will launch the first ever ladies’ Disney Villain collection. Who could resist Maleficent and the Evil Queen? Ursula and Cruella Deville will also be part of it.”

I certainly want to get my hands on the villain collection! For that particular night, though, I chose a light blue “Oh Boy!” sweatshirt, a black Mickey bomber jacket for my teen, and a cutie backpack for my little girl. Fashion purchases at reasonable prices—I like it! These will surely come in handy when we take our trip to Disneyland at the end of next month.

The Disney collection is available at all Folded & Hung stores nationwide.
