Give new life to your old bags by having them professionally handpainted

Who doesn’t love the smell of a good leather bag? But what happens after it gets locked up in your cabinet for quite some time? Aside from collecting dust, the worst-case scenario is that it can have molds. For those who have a gazillion bags in their closet, it’s best to rotate them and use different bags from time to time.

  • Add fresh flair to your closet staples

I received this question from @khazkhaz on my personal Facebook account:

“Hi Jake, I have a favorite bag that I keep using, but I can’t help but feel that it’s getting worn out. What can I do to revitalize it?

Everyone has their “default” bag that they tend to use over and over again. I try my best to switch it up and showcase a different bag every now and then. It doesn’t have to be new, but I make sure that it matches my outfit. Bags, just like anything you own, should be taken care of or you might end up with a worn-out item.

We’ve all experienced this, when we keep wearing the same thing—you could have the same situation with your bag. While some like to showcase the signature design of a bag, for an artist like me I want to make my bags a little more personal.

If you want to breathe new life into your bag, I recently made a gem of a discovery—CGT Designs, named after its owner and proprietor Christine G. Tan, a Manila-based housewife and mother with an exceptional passion for art and painting. A graduate of fashion and fine arts in California, Christine continues her love for the arts through her amazing work of handpainted bags and accessories.

Her claim to fame is that she can capture any character or design onto a luxury handbag, and make it seem like it is the newest collaboration out there. It’s so seamlessly done that the bag she handpainted can be mistaken for a collaboration between Star Wars and Louis Vuitton, or Audrey Hepburn for Tiffany & Co.

The art of handpainting luxury bags is not an overnight process. She starts by sketching the design. The client can also submit a drawing, which she will copy and use it as the template. Leather paints that are used are acrylic-based and created specifically for work on leather and faux leather. A large item usually takes a week to be completed, while a smaller one should be a few days.

CGT Designs is not limited to bags; they can also do clothing like jackets. If you fancy putting your favorite character on your wallet, then they can also do that. The options are limitless as long as it can be handpainted. Anything can be her canvas!
