Cars are the stars of PIMS

Model to watch for

Car aficionados, those looking to buy a new vehicle, or families keen for fun activities will find much to see and do at the Sixth Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), running until Sept. 16, at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

The country’s top automotive brands, members of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), will once again gather under one roof guided by the theme, “Steer The Future” with the tagline “CAMPI: Driving Progress, Empowering Society.”

This year’s PIMS will highlight the automotive industry’s valuable contributions to the advancement of the country and its economy, with a showcase the latest vehicles and automotive technologies. Set to participate in this years event are: BAIC, BMW, Daewoo Bus, Foton, Honda, Isuzu, Jeep, KIA, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Peugeot, Suzuki, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

In the past, PIMS has served as the stage for the debut of all-new models. This year will following in that tradition with the following models scheduled to make an appearance.

Bayan Automotive Industries Corporation (BAIC) will present its compact MPV, the M20. The vehicle features seating capacity for up to eight passengers, powered by a 1.5-liter engine and starting at just P548,000.


The pinnacle of luxury will be exhibited by BMW in the form of the new sixth-generation 7 Series and BMW i8 hybrid sports car. The 7 Series features innovations like a key fob with a digital screen and a stereo that recognizes hand gestures.


Daewoo Bus

Wearing a proudly made in the Philippines badge is the BS120SN powered by an engine that is EURO5 compliant.



New CAMPI member, Foton will also present a Philippine assembled vehicle, the Toplander seven-seater SUV powered by a Cummins diesel engine.



One need not take up a lot of real estate to enjoy a seven-seater SUV, with Honda’s new BR-V set to make its Philippine debut. The compact SUV will offer space, efficiency and a very agreeable pricetag. Besides that, Honda will also display its McLaren-Honda MP4-30 Formula 1 car exhibiting the very latest in Honda’s engine technology.



Launched just a few weeks ago was the Isuzu D-Max, which will also be present at PIMS, showing off its new façade, improved interior and high tech instrument cluster.



The brand known for its rugged SUVs will have a new model in the form of the Renegade — a crossover SUV that combines Jeep’s tough exteriors with a car’s comfortable ride and homey interiors.



The unique Soul SUV gets even more intriguing with the addition of a new seven-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission) that can handle higher torque outputs that also facilitates faster gear changes.



The GS F performance sedan is the latest addition to the “F” marquee with track-ready performance that will shatter any preconceived notions of a large sedan’s ability to perform as well as turn heads.



The subcompact SUV segment will get more heated with the highly anticipated arrival of the CX-3. The small but sporty car brings together sporty driving with off-road ability thanks to its all-wheel drive.


Mercedes Benz E-Class

The three pointed star will put its latest sedan, the E-Class on display, featuring driving features and top-of-the-line accessories for optimum comfort and drive.



The future will be brought closer by Mitsubishi with its XM MPV concept, making PIMS its second  world premier, after appearing at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. Also present will be the Outlander PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) with a  1.8 liter/100 km combined petrol and hybrid mode fuel efficiency. Finally, the new ASX will also bear a new “Dynamic Shield” face first shown off by the Montero Sport. Fuso truck models will also be present.




What tuners call, “Godzilla,” will wow speed freaks as the GT-R will take center stage at Nissan’s display area. The legendary supercar will finally be offered to Philippine customers with details to be announced at PIMS.



French brand, Peugeot will bring forth its multi-awarded 308, with hatchback and station wagon body styles to cater to the diverse yet discerning tastes.



The master of micro machines will put people in the forefront this time with its display area bearing the theme, “Drivers of Tomorrow”. Besides talented individuals, the marquee will also feature the new Ciaz and Super Carry diesel light commercial vehicle.



Bringing several intriguing automobiles is Toyota, starting with the very aggressively-styled new Prius hybrid car, the recently launched 2016 86 sports car, and finally, the FT-1 concept, which, if rumors are to be believed, could serve as the basis for the next Supra sports car.



Finally, Volkswagen will add some sporty flavor to its sedan line-up with the CC, a four-door comfort coupé with a 2.0-liter TDI (Turbo Direct Injection) diesel engine based on the Passat with the sleek design of a sports coupé.

Besides these featured cars, PIMS will also have an After-Sales Pavilion with packages for vehicle upgrades, repair services, and quality genuine parts for different vehicle models, old and new.

Those keen on making an informed purchase can head to the test drive area for participating car manufacturers, to sample some of the current offerings.

PIMPS partners will also be hosting activities like the TopGear Drift Box Challenge, C! Challenge and Kiddie Day Care activities, and Karcher Car Wash activity, which will happen in various locations in and around World Trade Center Metro Manila.

For the more socially active owner or DIY enthusiast, there will be club meets and various automotive seminars and workshops to be held, from service technician skills demonstration events, as well as Q&A session regarding vehicle concerns.
