There’s something romantic about a digital career, or one where your work is spent entirely online. No need for long commutes or ddealing with office politics. Travel where you want to and Instagram your way to exotic places, for as long as you have internet or data connection and a laptop. No need to punch a time card or wake up at 6am. Wouldn’t life be so rad if we could all do something like this?

Being a digital nomad or having a location-independent lifestyle is a calling that’s hard to resist. Moms like me who want to have more time with the children would surely want this. You would be surprised that a lot of people are actually into this right now. The question is how to get started and what qualities do you need to jumpstart an online career?

I found a few answers when I attended the Digital Career Bootcamp last July 30 in Ortigas Center. In this forum, we were able to hear the experience of some seasoned frontliners – the virtual assistant, social media manager, writer and those rendering customer support. There was also Leif Brian Margallo and Maritess Pasag, former hard-up students who now own their thriving BPO companies.
