Uncover the facts and clear the air

A few weeks back, a short trip to Singapore made me fear of the things I cannot see and of those I take for granted.

The problem of air pollution is worldwide. The alarming increase in respiratory cases in our country and around the world is enough evidence that air quality is indeed deteriorating. In Metro Manila alone, everyone is exposed to high levels of pollution caused by daily commute.  This is further aggravated by the worsening traffic. We don’t need numbers to know that air pollution is worsening. With all these, would you just rather stay home or indoors?

The air up there

If you think that staying home will be any safer; think again.  Homes, no matter how clean it may appear to be, are not resistant to indoor air pollution.  Believe it or not, but appliances or devices that produce heat such as gas stoves and heaters contribute to indoor pollution.  Frequent use of aerosols, pesticides, polishes and tobacco smoke are household (indoor) air pollutants that can cause asthma and other respiratory problems.  Particles not visible to the eye like dust, human skin and pet hair are harmful as well.

Our homes should be a safe haven, a refuge.  As such, most families make the extra effort to create and maintain a safe and healthy home.  But what if what we fear outdoors is far better than what we cannot see indoors?  Household (indoor) air pollution can be up to five times worse than the outside.  Dreadful isn’t it?  Unfortunately, major de-cluttering, thorough cleaning and vacuuming won’t solve the problem.

At Dyson Singapore we have a semianechoic chamber which all products are testing in for sounds levels and quality. The walls and ceilings are nonechoic so they produce accurate sound measurements.

The problem with modern living spaces especially those in condominiums, is that homeowners tend to seal themselves in to maintain constant temperature and block noise. I, for one, am guilty of this. I wasn’t aware that doing so practically traps harmful particles inside.     Other homeowners may opt to use air purifiers; but these are often big, bulky with inefficient filter system.  They take too much space and are hard to maintain.

Well, a visit to the clean city of Singapore and the expertise of Dyson made me realize that I wasn’t doing enough to keep my family safe from all these.  As a housewife, I make sure that my home is spotless.  But little did I know that the cleanliness I was trying to maintain was at the expense of my family’s health and well-being.   I feel guilty exposing my family to pollutants such as waxes, polishers and pesticides.  Had I known, I would’ve done things differently.

Hope in the Air

The Dyson company made a mark in history when founder James Dyson, a British inventor and design engineer, invented the world’s first bagless vacuum cleaner.  Saying that it was out of frustration from products that don’t work properly, James Dyson and his team of engineers worked on the premise of inventing and improving.  From one man and one brilliant idea, Dyson grew with over 1,000 hardworking engineers expert in fluid dynamics, robotics, acoustics, electronics to name a few.  And so, it comes to no surprise that another brilliant product was invented to set the facts straight and clear the air.

Living in the tropics whose immediate solution to survive the heat is through the use of electric fans, sure enough the Dyson Air Multiplier became so popular in the country.  Now, Dyson has taken this unique, quiet and powerful bladeless electric fan up a notch with the new Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier fan and the Dyson Link App.

Dyson engineers developed a test facility that smokes cigarettes – allowing the engineers to test the filter for efficiency of removing VOCs such as ammonia and acetaldehyde among others.

The Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier fan features its patented 360 degree Glass HEPA filter where in air is drawn and accelerated through the machine.  Air is then channelled by an airfoil-shaped ramp creating a long range stream of purified air.

The Glass HEPA filter contains 1.1 square meters of constructed microfibers.  And because its filter has been pleated 254 times, it can trap 99.95% of particles including pollen, bacteria, viruses and other ultrafine particles. Odors and harmful toxins like paint fumes can likewise be trapped with the addition of a layer of activated carbon granules inside its filter.

Accredited with the Quiet Mark by the Noise Abatement Society, this powerful 2-in-1 (fan and air purifier) is available as a tower and desk purifier.  Smaller rooms would prefer the use of a Desk purifier equipped with a tilt function while the Tower purifier is suitable for floor placement to project air across large spaces.

The Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier is not only powerful; it is intelligent as well.  With the help of the Dyson Link App (available in iOS and Android devices), Dyson owners have access to live insights of the indoor and outdoor air quality, temperature and humidity levels.  Users can likewise remotely control the inside air quality, receive alerts when air quality reaches peak levels and keep track of the air quality history through their smartphones. Users definitely have full control on their Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier even before they arrive home.  What also sets it apart is that it is easy to maintain and during its operation, users will hardly ever notice it. At night, Dyson purifiers have an automatic night-time mode. Apart from an LED display that dims, the purifier will continue to monitor and respond to air quality quietly as you sleep.

Just like a diligent workhorse, the Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier gets the work done. It is indeed a worthy addition to every household because a clean healthy home is a happy home.
