I was able to work with “The Master” of Comedy Manila Alex Calleja at a recent gig and was duly impressed.

His humor, though simple, was quite a hit even with AB audiences. In fact, even former president Benigno “Noy” Aquino III stayed to watch his set.

Part of Alex’s routine is an imagine conversation with his father that went:

(After changing places)

I became a fan that moment. So, when Alex asked me to watch one of his group’s gigs, I readily answered yes.

He was absent at the gig but the rest of Comedy Manila were there along with members of Take Out Comedy Hongkong. The result was riotous.

The show was hosted by Jinx Yeo, a Singaporean comedian who was witty. He is not afraid to make fun of himself as well. At one point, he said, “I know that all of you are all staring at the space in between my front teeth. Mind the Gap!”

The show started with Filipino comedian Muman Reyes who asked me to assist him during a comedic fake magic routine. All along I was laughing so hard he told me, “Pwede huwag kang maingay?? Assistant lang kita!” Everybody burst out laughing.

My favorite among the lot, however, was GB Labrador. His observational comedy is spot on.

Filipino Red Sottero and foreign counterparts Ryan Hynek and Gus Tate provided more laughs same with Nick Milnes and Andrew Newman.

My husband’s favorite is Victor Anastacio who is a dead ringer of Kiefer Ravena.
