From Iskul bukol to board topnotcher: How love changed the life of dentistry licensure topnotcher from CEU

Love changes a person, and 23-year-old Dr. Mickhail Quebec Francisco – who topped the June 2016 Dentistry Licensure Examination – can attest to that.

Francisco topped the exams with a grade of 85.30 percent.

Mickhail told the Manila Bulletin on Tuesday that he’s still in a state of shock after learning about this new milestone.

“Hindi ako makapaniwala nung una. Masaya ako pero hindi ko pa rin talaga inaasahan na ako mag to-top, [I can’t believe it, at first. I am happy, but I didn’t expect that I will top [the exam],” he said.

Before Mickhail became a board topnotcher, he was an iskul bukol (happy-go-lucky) in  his few years in college – admitting that he wasn’t really the type of student who’s serious in his studies.

“Actually dati nung first 2 years ko sa school, hindi ako seryoso sa studies ko. Pa-cutting-cutting classes, ganun. Tapos late papasok.  Mabarkada kasi ako. Hilig ko rin mag laro ng dota,” Mickhail said in his chat with Manila Bulletin.

But everything changed for Mickhail when he met his ‘special someone,’  the person who inspired him to be the best he could be.

“After ko makilala yung girlfriend ko, siya talaga yung nag push sa akin to excel. She wanted me kasi to be the best. Siya talaga yung pinaka nag inspire sa akin” he shared.

Mickhail always wanted to do his best for his girlfriend, who to him is his No. 1 supporter and motivator.

“Parang gusto niya gawin ko lagi ang best ko at talagang siya yung tao na nagtitiwala sa kakayahan ko. Mas may tiwala pa ata siya sakin kesa sa tiwala ko sa sarili ko lalo na nitong malapit na yung boards. Sobrang pinupush niya ako and I’m very thankful na nandyan siya,” he said.

His girlfriend is also a dentisty graduate and passed the board exam as well.

“Isa siya sa magagaling sa klase. Mas magaling pa nga siya sakin sa practicals kaya nagpapaturo lang ako sa kanya,” he reminisced.

But of course, his girlfriend wasn’t the only one who helped him in journey to the top of the boards, Mickhail’s family was also in his back althroughout.

“[Yung family ko] sobrang supportive din nila sakin. Kasi nung time na magboboards ako, never nila ako inuutusan haha talagang hinahayaan lang nila ako mag aral ganun,” he jokingly said.

What was his technique for passing the board: ‘Focus and relax’

If there’s one tip that Mickhail can share to people who’ll take board exams, that is to just focus and relax.

“Dapat talaga focus palagi. Pero wag kakalimutan na mag relax para mawala yung pagod,” he told MB.

He went on to say that study breaks are important, “May breaks din dapat. Ayoko kasi nung puro aral, nakakastress kasi. So umaalis ako minsan with my friends and my girlfriend.”

“Sa bahay naglalaro din ako minsan ng Defense of the Ancients and League of Legends pag pagod na talaga,” he added.

More importantly, one should never forget to pray.

“I always pray and visit the church.  Tiwala ka sa sarili and especially kay God. siya naman yung dahilan ng lahat.”

Dr. Francisco is one of the three Dentistry board topnotchers from the Centro Escolar University. Dr. Aileen Lim placed 2nd with an 84.03 grade, and Dr. Abbygale Aliola Arzaga placed 6th with 82.80.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced Monday that 329 out of 734 passed the May 2016 Dentist Licensure Examination (Written Phase) and 356 out of 359 passed the Dentist Licensure Examination (Practical Phase) given in Manila last June 2016. (Noreen A. Jazul)
