Known for transforming simple objects into beautiful works of art, Manalastas said that she hopes her exhibit will help create awareness

on keeping the environment safe, clean and useful.

Opening last May 21 and running until June 17, the exhibit titled “Malik- Malay” is a portmanteau for “Malikmatang Kamalayan” which roughly translates to “ephemeral or fleeting of consciousness.”

“I chose “Malik-Malay” as a thematic concept for this new event as the body of works captures my personal struggle to impart my message to sustainable, environmentally conscious living through my craft,” the lady artist said.

She added that “this awareness did not come as a deliberate lifestyle shift from wanton consumerism to respect for what nature and life supplies.”

Manalastas also disclosed that some artist friends regards her artworks as junk art and she would like to agree with them.
