Artists pay it forward

Last Sunday, fans gathered at Pioneer Market to witness some of their favorite stars perform at Labor Akay, a fund-raising event organized by Damay Kamay Foundation meant to benefit artists needing medical help.

Some of them were Piolo Pascual, Martin Nievera and Aiza Seguerra. Note these stars did it as labor of love.

I was able to interview Martin before he sang and I asked him if he found it uncomfortable performing amid the heat, and he said, “When I found out that Richard Merk and Julio Diaz needed help, I asked my musical director Marvin Querido to join this cause because I really wanted to help. The sun and heat are nothing when you want to help others. ”

Piolo brought his son Iñigo and sang two duets with him. “I wanted to expose my son to helping others. A parent giving a good example is the best lesson. My mom was also there to support us,” the heartthrob shared.

Speaking of parental support, Sarah Geronimo’s mother Divina also supported the cause by putting up a bazaar selling organic goods at the event.

Meanwhile, Heart Evangelista, Cesar Montano, Jao Mapa, Maestro Orobia, Ernie Garcia, and Elizabeth Oropesa, donated paintings for auction.

Also donating items for the cause are Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro , Luis Manzano, Connie Sison, Billy Joe Crawford, Iza Calzado Miriam Quiambao, and Rufa Mae Quinto.

Gary Valenciano and wife Angeli donated the use of the sound system at the event.

I cannot list all the performers in this space but I assure you, your deed will be blessed a thousand times by the Big Guy.

On May 22, another fundraiser will be held but this time for a different cause. The Oasis of Love Foundation aims to spearhead activities for people to have a personal relationship with God. To help fund the effort, several artists have volunteered their services.

Performing in a variety show to be held on May 22 at the roof deck of 409 Shaw Boulevard from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. are Joey G, Kim Molina and Boboy Garovillo.

Alonzo and Niño Muhlach, who also attended last Sunday’s fundraiser, decided to join the “Oasis Fiesta.” Same with Cesar, who, this time, will perform with his own band.
