P135-M zoo, theme park to rise at Clark Freeport

Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga – The Global Zoo and Theme Park Alliance Inc. (GZTPAI) has started the construction of a P135-million zoo inside a 20 hectare property in this Freeport.

GZTPAI General Manager Ric B. Siccion and Clark Development Corporation (CDC) officials on Saturday led the groundbreaking ceremonies.

The area is near the Gate 14 inside the Freeport.kk

The CDC Marketing Department reported that GZTPAI will also build a theme park featuring rides as well as adventure, leisure and recreational facilities.

The project would employ about 140 workers in the next five years.

CDC and GZTPI signed the contract last September 2015.

CDC said that the project would not only create another attraction inside the Freeport but likewise reiterate that forests are the most ideal habitat for wild animals.

CDC said the soft opening of the project is expected within the next 24 months upon the issuance of occupancy permit by the CDC, along with other permits that must be sought by GZTPAI from other government and regulatory bodies involved in zoo operations.

Siccion has private collection of tigers since 2007, including some imported species of birds, reptiles and other small animals which are in a mini zoo he established in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Siccion said he decided to invest here because of the sound business climate in the Freeport, as well as the fast-growing tourism industry here and in the rest of the country.

Siccion is currently president of Zoo World Inc., a member of the Philippine Zoos Association and Southeast Asian Zoos and Aquariums.

The GZTPAI officials said the company envisions to create a place where love for animals could be advocated and shared with others and to educate Filipinos, particularly tourists, about wildlife conservation and protection.

Also present during the groundbreaking ceremonies were CDC Chairman Eliseo B. Santiago, CDC board members Francisco L. Villanueva and Rommel A. Bondoc, Noel F. Manankil, VP for Admin and Finance; Evangeline G. Tejada, VP Business for Development and Business Enhancement Group; Alveen H. Tabag, VP for Engineering; GZTPAI General Manager, Ren Siccion, Kristoffer Martus, Col. Cris Marquez, Chief Division Staff, 1st Air Division of the Philippine Air Force and other CDC and GZTPI officials.

This is a ridiculous project in Clark, while there is lots of vacant land at Clark it should be reserved for future expansion. Clark shouldn’t suffer the same faith as MIA where the airport was boxed in by development in it’s area of unrelated business and industries. We already have the biggest and most expensive ZOO in the Phils. It’s called “Tongress” and there is also a smaller version called senate. There are animals of all sorts from crocodiles to monkees.
