Satoru Suzuki steps in as new Toyota PH president

As Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) gears up for what is shaping up to be its fifteenth consecutive year of dominating Passenger and Commercial vehicle, and overall auto sales, it will do so with a new leader at the helm.

Michinobu Sugata, the outgoing president of TMP, has recently concluded his fantastic tour-of-duty that began in 2010. Since taking over as the sixth president of TMP, Sugata not only expanded the lineup of Toyota models being offered in the country, he also grew the number of dealerships from 28 to 49 all around the Philippines.

Under Sugata’s leadership, TMP started breaking sales records in 2012 and they haven’t looked back ever since.dhtf

In 2014, TMP broke the 100-thousand annual unit sales mark, putting them in the elite Global Toyota 100k Club. Just last year, TMP reached 125 thousand unit sales while also earning its 14th consecutive Triple Crown (leading in Passenger and Commercial vehicle sales and also finishing number one in overall auto sales). And after 27 years of business in the Philippines, TMP made history by breaching the one-million unit sales milestone in 2015.

To put everything in perspective at a global scale, all these achievements puts the Philippine market 4th in the entire Asian region and 13th all around the world.

“This outstanding performance has contributed significantly to Team Asia Toyota,” said Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) managing officer and CEO of Asia, Middle East, and North Africa Regions, Kyoichi Tanada.

As his parting gift, Sugata also leaves behind a revitalized Philippine motorsports scene right at the grassroots level with the Vios Cup — each race bringing a higher level of excitement to the fans and bringing back our passion for motorsports.

Taking his place, and on a comeback tour of sorts, is new TMP President, Satoru Suzuki, who was the company’s Vice-President in charge of Sales and Product Planning Operations from 1997-1999.

Aside from his three years in TMP in the late 90s, Suzuki has kept in step with the Philippine automotive market in his role of handling all sales-related concerns of Toyota Motor Asia Pacific (TMAP) Singapore and Japan, prior to his posting here.

“It is with great pleasure once again to join Team Toyota Philippines after 16 years. I am eager to build strong partnerships with you in the coming days because I firmly believe that with your firm support, we can all make a positive change to usher the country towards becoming a key player in the regional automotive scene,” said new TMP President, Satoru Suzuki.
