The happiest kingdom of them all

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort debuts Broadway-style live shows and new attractions, creating countless moments this summer at its 10th anniversary celebration

For someone whose childhood is filled with dreams of being a princess, who cried when Andy had to let go of Woody and Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 3, and who started to watch Mickey Mouse shows in black and white until it became technicolor, all the way to the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, stepping at the “happiest place on Earth” was a proof that the dreams and the wishes that your heart make can definitely come true.

Aside from the rides I was eager to try, I was looking forward to the things that Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) had in store for their 10th anniversary had awakenend the little girl in me, as in a fairy tale book. From the Disney characters to the cast members who created extraordinary performances, the experience was indeed sensational and heartwarming, perfect for every Filipino family.

On it’s 10th anniversary, Hong Kong Disneyland created these amazing shows to further add thrill to the already exhilarating experience every visitor is about to have:

Journey through a live magical book in the much-awaited and large-scale production musical, Mickey and the Wondrous Book, brings to life the greatest Disney stories of all time, where guests will be immersed in seven beloved Disney tales. With a mixture of modern and classic elements in the story, music, choreography, costume, and set design, the 28-minute new stage show opening at Disney’s Storybook Theater begins with Mickey Mouse and Goofy discovering that a wondrous book exists in a library and in this book lives Olaf who escapes and wants to fulfill his ultimate dream of experiencing summer. As Mickey Mouse travels from chapter to chapter to look for Olaf’s rightful home, he goes to the different tales of Disney like The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, Brave, Aladdin, The Princess and the Frog, and Frozen. Filipino cast members are also on the center stage of the production where Gian Magdangal and Raki Vega sang the 10th anniversary theme song “Happily Ever After.”

The exhilarating brilliant castle projection every night is made even more breathtaking and magical by the stunning fireworks and castle projection that make a perfect finale for a magical day at the park. The castle serves as a giant stage that presents a new sterling cast of 49 beloved Disney friends, including 16 newly added characters from Inside Out, Finding Nemo, Big Hero Six, Cars, and the upcoming release, Finding Dory.

This picture-perfect enchanting forest presented by Pandora recreates miniature iconic fairy tales scenes of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast,  and Tangled  in an intricately designed maze set in a beautiful garden setting. Disney’s most famous and magical fairy, Tinker Bell, will be waiting to meet visitors and sprinkle some magical pixie dust and perhaps, if you think of a really happy thought, make you fly.

Mickey, Minnie, Duffy, Shellie May, and all their friends are set to celebrate Hong Kong Disneyland’s milestone anniversary and create more cherished moments with guests at Main Street, U.S.A. and a special photo location—the “Happily Ever After” storybook, in Fantasyland. More Disney friends are going to join this “Happily Ever After” celebration. Come and hug Baymax from Big Hero 6 in February and Princess Sofia from Sofia the First on March.

The anniversary celebration is marked with special editions of 220 new gift assortments and 60 10th Anniversary food and beverages that are available across the park and two themed hotels for the family to enjoy during their stay. Whether it is a Minnie Mouse dim sum at Crystal Lotus or breakfast with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Pluto at the Enchanted Garden of Hong Kong Disneyland hotel, there are plenty of choices to satisfy the guests’ taste buds. There will also be a range of Star Wars-themed merchandise available in the park for guests to enjoy and take home.

It’s amazing when you step in a foreign land and suddenly someone with the most contagious smile greets you with “Mabuhay!” Filipinos will be at home and be immensely proud in Hong Kong Disneyland when they witness the Filipinos perform their favorite Disney tales. Artists such as Rony Fortich, the music director of HKDL, Filipino cast members Raki Vega, Gian Magdangal, and dance captain Marvin Naadat will make you proud you’re Pinoy, and wish that you can perform as good as they do so that you can stay forever in Disneyland.
