PALO, Leyte — Members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) are set to make a massive campaign as part of their call for honest and peaceful elections on May 9, 2016.

Palo Archbishop John F. Du said the Catholic bishops will be participating in the coming elections as they have a big role in electing new leaders of our country.

Du said their role is to campaign for honest and peaceful elections and they will not be partisans. He likewise denounced the massive vote buying by some moneyed candidates in Region 8, saying it is “un-Christian”.

“I again denounce massive vote buying and it is not good, un-Christian. Even small children now know what is vote buying. We have to stop it. We will campaign for honest and peaceful elections,” Du, CBCP national treasurer, told Leyte newsmen after celebrating the first anniversary of Pope Francis’ visit last January 17, 2015.

He also officiated the anniversary mass at the Palo Metropolitan Cathedral.

Du said that as bishops, they will not stop asking the voters to elect the best leaders, and pointed out that they will also need the help of the faithful in their campaign.
