Chief Inspector Nannie Precy Alcala, Investigation Division chief of the PRO-5, said all the three main components of the non-index crime has increased in which cases “resulting to homicide” went up by 49 cases or 17 percent; “physical injury” up by 869 or 15 percent; and “damage to property” increased by 1,334 or 26 percent compared with the figures in 2014.

The province of Camarines Sur posted the highest cases of traffic accidents with 4,160 cases; followed by Albay with 3,652 cases; Naga City with 1,956 cases; Camarines Norte with 1,269 cases; Masbate with 752 cases; Sorsogon with 585 cases; and Catanduanes with 308 cases of traffic accidents recorded.

Alcala added that most common causes of traffic accidents are driver’s attitude such as reckless driving, lack of discipline and drunkenness, mechanical failure, roadway design, poor roadway maintenance, and lack of traffic warning signs.

Last Tuesday, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Bicol launched its road safety advocacy, “Mga Kabarkada Mo, STRUT Level Up Road Safety Advocacy.”

The campaign seeks to spread awareness across all sectors of the community in promoting responsible road conduct.
