Three things I plan to do this year

LIVE AND LOVE
Life is all about these special moments

Here we are, one week into the brand spanking new year of 2016. I’ve always loved the opportunity that new years present—the chance to start fresh, to endeavor to be better, to recalibrate. The year 2016 marks a very poignant chapter in my life and it is important for me to make a comprehensive list of personal improvement goals that I can strive for this year. Many people don’t have faith in resolutions but I think of them as a vision board for my life. Purposeful goals that are acknowledged out loud have more chances of coming to fruition than aspirations kept hidden in the recesses of one’s mind.

Last year, my resolutions were all about motherhood. This year, my purposes are all about me. As we know, you have to work on being the best form of yourself in order to be better for everyone else. With this in mind, I have three affirmations I want to live by this year.

LIVE IN THE MOMENT

By nature, I’m a meticulous planner. I live my life by my lists of to-dos. This means I often live in the future. What I have to do, what my family has to do… in the next few hours, days, and weeks. This year, I want to live in the moment more, because if 2015 taught me anything it is that life is fleeting and it needs to be lived and appreciated in the moment. Day to day moments are what your memories are made of, so the enjoyment and treasuring of these times are crucial. I have made up my mind to do things I want to do this year so I won’t wind up with regrets. As you get older, you truly grasp the meaning behind the phrase “life is short.” Life is all about special moments and if you don’t live in them, then what’s the point?

BE THE HEALTHIEST VERSION OF ME

This year, I want to be the fittest and strongest rendering of myself—physically, mentally, emotionally. I want to fuel myself with nourishing sustenance, for both my mind and soul. This means full commitment to a structured regimen of wellness as well as surrounding myself with people who are positive and nontoxic. It also means being open to and exploring new and diverse avenues of life coaching for my individual betterment.

LEARN TO LET GO

Admittedly, I’m the kind of person who holds onto things. That’s the way I have always been. But now is the time to learn how to properly let go of things so that I can be free. Keeping negative things in your heart does you no good. I am a proficient forgiver but I’m not one to forget. Harboring ill feelings and feelings of injustice eat away at you, even if these feelings are small. This leads to festering, which is the opposite of positivity and letting go. This year, I want to work on letting go so that I have more room for even more joy in my heart.

These may sound like lofty aspirations, but that is why they are aspirations. If I can work toward these goals a little bit each day, then I will be squarely on the right path to self improvement.
