First Filipino to be decorated Officer in Monaco’s prestigious Order of St. Charles

The new dean of the Consular Corps of the Philippines, Consul General Fortune Aleta-Ledesma of Monaco, was awarded the distinction of Officer (Officier) in the Order of St. Charles by Prince Albert II of Monaco in a private ceremony during the recently concluded Monaco National Day celebrations held November last year

The Order of St. Charles is Monaco’s most senior order having been established by Prince Charles III in 1858, and later modified by Prince Rainier III in 1996.  It is awarded in five classes to both citizens and foreigners for service to the state or to the sovereign prince. The Order is the equivalent of the French “Legion d’Honneur,” the highest and most prestigious distinction given by the Monegasque government.

In 2008, Consul General Aleta-Ledesma was awarded the distinction of Chevalier (Knight) by Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The current dean of the Consular Corps has been previously awarded Chevalier in the Ordre national du Merite (French National Order of Merit), a Decoration of Honor in Gold from Austria and the Medal of Honor by the Federation Internationale Des Corps Et Association Consulaires for her consular work in the Philippines.

LIFESTYLE ASIA ON BROADWAY

It is a remarkable achievement for a magazine to celebrate its 28th anniversary, and thus in grand style, Lifestyle Asia recently marked this auspicious event with a musical extravaganza held at the Valkyrie at the Palace in Uptown Bonifacio. The venue was transformed into a grand ballroom, where the guests walked the red carpet while being regaled by musicians.

Chef Sau Del Rosario and chef Christine Paredes from Cravings Catering and Events prepared a culinary feast inspired by Broadway musicals, which was the events theme. Joe Chan, son of celebrated composer and OPM star Jose Mari Chan sang the official Lifestyle Asia jingle, “Living in my Best Life,” on which he collaborated with Lifestyle Asia’s editor-in-chief Anna Sobrepeña, who wrote the lyrics.

DJ Julio Ortega opened the program with modern and upbeat music followed by Broadway overture by the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga. The audience was enthralled with the performances by some of the country’s most brilliant artists:  Joanna Ampil’s “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables, Morisette Amon’s  “Defying Gravity” from Wicked, Nicole Asensio’s “Summertime,” Audie Gemora’s “Something’s Coming” from Westside Story, Cris Villonco’s “Limang Dipang Tao,” Bea Tantoco’s  medley of Adele’s top hits, and The CompanY’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Caritas Manila was honored for their efforts in helping the calamity survivors through their Damayan Movement during Typhoon Lando. On stage were One Mega Group chairman Jerry Tiu, founder and CEO Sari Yap, editor-at-large Cheryl Tiu, editor-in-chief Anna Sobrepeña, associate publisher Franco Laurel, and Caritas Manila social marketing division head May Tiangco.

Grand finale was when the performers sang “O Bayan Ko,” followed by the Filipino Christmas carol “Kumikutikutitap.” Everyone must have felt the surge of happiness for Lifestyle Asia’s creative vision.
